Frequently Asked Questions & Rental Policies


When you come to collect your vehicle you will need a valid, full drivers licence. A Credit/Debit card with funds available on the card to cover the rental and an additional NZ$500 above this is required as a security deposit. The Credit/Debit card must be a Visa/MasterCard or Amex and only the cardholder can use this card and hire a vehicle as per your banks restrictions. Please note a Debit card cannot be used unless it has the Visa/MasterCard or Amex Symbo,l and is a named card (not a pre-paid disposable).

Any country or state issued drivers licence is acceptable, as long as it is printed in English. If you don’t have this you will need to arrange for an International Drivers Licence. You must be over 20 years of age to hire a vehicle, and have a had Full Licence for at least 3 years.

Yes we do. We ensure the card provided has enough funds to cover the rental and other charges that may occur during your hire.

Yes, however this will depend on availability. We cannot guarantee any extension but will do our best to accommodate your request.

We have a set of principal cancellation rules that apply to our business:

If cancelled up to 7 days prior to pick up – No Fee

If cancelled 6 to 1 day prior to pick up – 50% of Total Rental

If a vehicle or trailer is returned early for any reason whatsoever – No refund applies

If a 50% deposit has been paid or charged for a booking over our summer season period (01 October to 30 April), if cancelled within any given time frame and for any reason whatsoever – No refund applies

In┬áthe unfortunate event of an accident with your rental vehicle and a third party we, will ask that you do not admit liability in any circumstance. If you are unsure always obtain a police report that will help our insurance company to gauge which party was at fault. We also ask you complete an Accident Form which can be found in the vehicle’s glove box. This will prompt you to ask the correct questions and to gather the relevant information we need to make a claim on your behalf. All accidents must be reported to a New Plymouth Airport Rental Car Representative the day it happens. You will also have to complete an insurance form at our local office. We do not guarantee to replace the vehicle if you are liable for the accident.

No!! Our vehicles are not permitted to be driven off road or onto any New Zealand beaches. Failure to comply may forfeit you insurance cover. A minimum penalty of $2,000 may apply.

No! For the comfort of all our customers we encourage no smoking in our vehicles. A minimum cleaning fee of $100 will be charged, if smoking has occurred in the car.

Yes. You the hirer are responsible to pay for all petrol or diesel used in the vehicle during the period of your hire.

Your car will be fully fuelled ready for you to use on pick up; we therefore require you to return the vehicle full of fuel immediately prior to return. You will therefore only be paying for the fuel you use. It is useful to maintain receipts to avoid refueling charges.

Failing to do so may incur a refill fee plus the cost of the fuel.

No. For our customers comfort and well being we ask that no animals of any description be transported in the vehicle during the hire. Failure to comply will result in cleaning fees being charged to you the hirer.
